Amy went to Liberty University to get her BS in Multidisciplinary studies in Kinesiology, Counseling, and Psychology, then continued for her MA in Marriage & Family Therapy. She then went on to study Gottman couples therapy in order to better serve marriages. As Amy saw the need, she decided to specialize in trauma by studying Trauma-Focused CBT, EMDR, EMDR R/TEP G/TEP, Eating Disorders, Neuro Emotive Techniques, and finally deciding to certify in Neuropsychotherapy. Amy also was a Licensed Addictions Specialist for several years, until deciding to discontinue active addictions work. Her approach is direct, nonjudgemental, and integrative to best care for each individual. Amy got her start as a therapist with the Military before choosing to get licensed. Amy has a 15-minute radio show, Time for Awesome, with wdrbmedia.com on Mondays live at 1:15pm. For enjoyment, Amy loves to dance, make hand-stamped bracelets, attempt piano, art, and does hair and makeup for fashion shows and photoshoots. To relax, Amy appreciates the beach and mountains. Amy lives in Harrisburg, NC and is happily married with two sons, aged 26 and 18.
Debra Apollonia, LCMHC
Debbie is a Licensed Clinical Mental Health Counselor, who creates a safe and non-judgmental environment where clients are able to explore issues and improve the quality of their lives. Debbie treats adolescents and adults, in individual, or couples' sessions, using an integrative style of psychotherapy that pulls from different approaches with an emphasis on Cognitive Behavioral Therapy. Debbie works with clients based on a collaborative approach that promotes a strong alliance and allows for open and honest communication. Within this foundation clients develop the safety and freedom to challenge behaviors and beliefs and discover new attitudes that promote change. Debbie works with a variety of issues including trauma, PTSD, grief and loss, depression, anxiety, relationship problems, and addiction/recovery. Debbie specializes in working with those who have experienced trauma of all types and has specialized training and is experienced in EMDR.
Allison Lake, Intern Counselor
Allie is a counseling intern currently pursuing her Master of Arts in Clinical Mental Health Counseling at Liberty University. Allie is working under the supervision of Amy Horne, a licensed clinical mental health counselor and intern supervisor, at Coping with Life Therapy, PLLC. Allie received her Bachelor of Science in Psychology at James Madison University in 2021. Following difficulties with transitioning to college and later being diagnosed with several chronic illnesses, she found that her own counseling experience transformed her life. This inspired her to guide others in their healing journeys. Allie feels her purpose to support clients during hard chapters by creating a strong foundation to build on and take with them. Her approach to therapy from a collaborative lens as a resounding belief that people are the experts of their lives. She takes a humanistic stance and focuses on creating a safe, nonjudgmental, and inclusive climate for therapy where clients feel secure and free to unapologetically be themselves, exactly as they are. The curation of and encouragement for authenticity is present here. This is a space that is entirely for clients and Allie to value continuous dialogue about any and all forms of feedback. Many clients describe her as a calming, friendly, and gentle presence who has the utmost highest admiration for the work she does. She has a diverse approach to therapy where she incorporates a combination of successful methods, each dependent on clients’ unique and individual needs and preferences. Treatment is tailored to each client as no two people are the same. Many will go through a very similar experience but have distinct outcomes. Allie works from a strengths-based frame as she believes that every individual has the capacity to succeed. We have to address obstacles that have blocked or hindered our ability to achieve. Her practice focuses on initiating positive, meaningful change to help replace or lessen former feelings, thoughts, habits, and behavior patterns that have interfered with one’s ability to function in an adaptive way. A few fun facts about Allie is that she played competitive volleyball for years and was a student athlete in college! She loved every part of the sport and have kept that same work ethic in other areas of her life. Allie enjoys meditation practices, yoga, and walking outside in nature. She prioritizes and values the meaningful relationships in her life and has always been more extroverted. She is close with her family and friends. With her experience as someone with a disability, she feels that she can resonate and relate to clients who may also have concerns of this nature. She strives to modify how our healthcare system operates to best serve people.
